assign 与 allocate

assign 常把任务、责任或职位交给具体的人；allocate 常把有限的资金、时间、空间或其他资源分给用途或对象。两者有重叠，不能单靠中文“分配”判断。

The manager assigned the inspection to Chen and allocated two hours for it.

译文：经理把检查任务交给陈，并为这项工作安排了两小时。

这里 assign 解决由谁负责，allocate 解决安排多少资源。
